The trailer also offers a brief, shadowy glimpse of the mythical one-eyed giant, from whom sheep are are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.
Based upon a foundational pillar in classic storytelling, The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. Following his victory at Troy, which is depicted in Homer's Iliad, Odysseus endures an extended and hazardous road home.
Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast
On his travels, Odysseus confronts countless challenges and mythical beings. This roster features the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, Odysseus vows to overcome anything to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus on his home island.
This film's ensemble boasts an impressive lineup. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Tale of Many Adaptations
Homer's epic has seen many reinterpretations throughout history. Examples include modern retellings and a late-90s dance production. There has even been adapted into a musical titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a nine-album collection.
