The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined the French president in criticizing the decision.
The bans were enacted on Tuesday on a former EU commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
